Where Are My Relaxed Sisters At?!

Hi, ladies!
At least once a week, I have been hit with the same news: the news of losing relaxed hair inspirations to transitioning. Great for them, bad for me. I love knowing that there are ladies who prefer to chemically loosen their curl pattern. It's what I prefer and I love having motivation; my motivation being that relaxed hair can grow extremely long and be healthy. Lately, more of my inspirational ladies have decided to go natural, which has left me feeling alone sometimes lol. Am I the only one who still loves relaxers. Relaxers do not fall into my hands no more than five times a years. Doing so has allowed me to gain a healthy, relaxed head. Not all of my hair is bone straight; I have began to prefer texture, but not enough to where I would consider going natural myself.

This post is not to talk trash. Natural hair is beautiful. I cannot keep my hands out of my NG. I have envisioned myself with full natural many times. I have made a personal choice not to go natural. I believe that it is a personal challenge: relaxed hair can grow healthy and long. In all honesty, I have considered going natural twice since my HHJ. I take care of my cousin's natural hair because she cannot afford products nor salon visits. I have done my research about natural hair just so that I can help with hers (she is a freshman in high school). I have had to do appropriate research in order to properly care for her natural hair. For example, I use all natural products with her.

I wish all naturals the best on their journeys, BUT can a girl get some more relaxed inspiration lol???!!!! I hope I am not on this relaxed HHJ by myself, lol.

-Signed,
One proud and relaxed head

  1. not alone I blame the whole natural vs. Relaxed problem. I just started relaxing my hair again after 6 years natural. I am having easy time dealing with the change but on social networking sites. The still naturals used to talk about my pictures and posts badly. I am switching type I don't have a preference or care what others choose to do. For your cousin when I was natural just buying products from the drugstores and using eggs, baking soda, and mayonnaise out the kitchen... it worked after trying everything.

    1. Thank you for replying to my post and rant. Lol. I really appreciate the products you listed. I will definitely see how I can work this into her regimen.

  2. You're not alone. I'm a relaxed head and proud of it. However, lately, I have been leaning towards transitioning because of all the posts I see of naturalistas and feeling my roots as they grow due to strecthing my relaers. Sometimes I get caught up thinking my hair is probably naturally wavy/curly and I'd really want that. However, I'm too lazy to startover and I REALLY enjoy my straight hair. My inspiration to remind a relaxed head comes from TheHappyAshleyShow (youtube) and ulovemegz. I am very happy you brought up this topic.

    1. Thank you for responding. I love my relaxers. Lately, I have been adding oils in mine to minimize the strength of my relaxers I order to have some texture. I believe relaxed hair is beautiful, but I have been losing my long time hair inspirations.

  3. There is still a few of us out here lol I have nothing against natural hair but I totally get how you feel, a few of my hair-spirations has gone natural and to be honest I don't pay much attention to their blog anymore especially since I'm alway playing "catch-up" when it comes to my blog reading.

    1. Thank you so much for responding. You made a comment that really hit home for me. There have been channels on YouTube that, with a heavy heart, I have unfollowed or have disregarded because that person went natural. I mean have for quite a few like that. I have found myself only getting on YouTube for a maybe 3 channels in regards to relaxed hair. I have searched and searched on YouTube for more channels. I haven't given up yet. I will continue to look until I have gained as many as I have lost.

    1. I would be a liar if I didn't say I have considered transistioning in the past. However, I personally, I am on a challenge: relaxed hair can grow, but it has to be taken care of. It cannot be ignored. It cannot be placed on bonnet for days and weeks at a time untouched. Hard works come with both natural and relaxed textures. I have learned in the last years that being a relaxed head requires more work than I was normally doing.

  6. I am still here lol. Transitioning isn't something I think im gonna do for a long time...I would consider it after hitting waist length though.

    1. Thank you for responding to my post. My final length goal will probably be full MBL. I am starting to consider that whenever I do reach this length that I may begin to only get two-three relaxers a year so that my hair will continue to have that full look to it. I would love to eventually trim of those super bone straight ends away, but I will not start that anytime soon, lol.

  7. Still here sweetheart! Just been a little lax on my own blogging. I also feel you regarding some of the original inspirations "switching teams" and it drives a person a little crazy, considering that I am very happy with my relaxed head.
